    Colours for November

Four new colours for this month’s creative practice.

SAN MARTÍN the soft gold of the veranillo de San Martín, the brief warm spell around 11 November.

NUBARRÓN the heavy slate-grey of a rain cloud rolling in over the bay.

OTOÑADA the fresh green that comes back to the fields and verges after the first autumn rains.

CASTAÑA roasted chestnut, and the smoke from the street vendors’ carts as the evenings draw in.

Use them however you like. A wash of background colour, a single brushstroke, a filter, a frame. The prompts this month and every month can be found here.

    Skyward Wishes

    Post In English and Spanish

Autumn is my favourite season, especially here in Cádiz. The light is cleaner and softer after summer, and with Samhain approaching, the veil feels thinner.

This week was the Hunter’s Moon, the full moon that follows the Harvest Moon, and it inspired this artwork below: a few hand-drawn lines and added words, scanned and then layered with deep hues and a background from the archive.

It’s a good time to take stock, to let go of what no longer serves you and to invite new beginnings. That suits where I am right now. Time to think about what’s next but also sit quietly with the present, to light a fire this weekend and send some wishes skywards.

  • The White City

    The White City

    Post In English and Spanish

We spent a few days in Lisbon last weekend. Another city on the Atlantic, another coast full of light. Here’s some of what caught my eye as we wandered around: walls, pavements, shadow play, water as a pattern and living forms. Perhaps the beginnings of new work for autumn. They are like a canvas to build on, photos layered over each other that will carry a real feel of the city. But I don’t know what I’ll combine them with yet, perhaps a new image will evolve holding two different lights from two different coasts. Watch this space.

  • This Guy in London

    This Guy in London

    (versión en español abajo)

A summer day in London with an old friend. We walked for hours, we walked the canal. The sun was on the water, a sense of the partial eclipse in the light. I kept stopping to take photos. Water as a pattern everywhere. Back home on my computer I blended a few photos from that day resulting in the image above. This Guy in London. Made from a good day. Timeless.

This Guy in London. Hecha de un buen día. Atemporal.
