    Palm trees, filtered light, and the quiet hum of Cádiz in the late afternoon. The artwork Plaza de Mina captures one of the city’s most beloved squares, layered in botanical detail and soft Andalusian tone. It’s a piece about standing still under the palms, looking up and feeling time slow down.

    Palmeras, luz filtrada y el murmullo tranquilo de Cádiz al caer la tarde. Plaza de Mina captura una de las plazas más queridas de la ciudad, con capas de detalle botánico y un suave tono andaluz. Una obra sobre la pausa y la presencia, sobre quedarse quieto bajo las palmeras, mira por arriba y sentir cómo el tiempo se detiene.

    The Turning Ground – The Process

    This week, a look behind The Turning Ground series I have been working on.

    It all begins simply: markers, yellow paper, a few words that catch a feeling. From there, everything shifts, is scanned, layered, and reworked digitally until the energy of those first lines finds its rhythm again in light and texture.

    Once on the computer, the scan is blended with photographs, in this instance, photographs of two walls in the neighbourhood, bringing traces of place, surface, and time into the work.

    For me, this part of the process is all about transformation and the balance between hand and software, intuition and refinement, seeing how an everyday act of writing can become something reflective, visual, alive.

    From pen to pixel. The Turning Ground continues to grow.

    Esta semana, una mirada detrás de la serie The Turning Ground.

    Todo empieza de forma sencilla: rotuladores, papel amarillo y unas palabras que atrapan una emoción. A partir de ahí, todo cambia, se escanea, se superpone y se transforma digitalmente hasta que la energía de esas primeras líneas vuelve a encontrar su ritmo en la luz y la textura.

    Ya en el ordenador, la imagen escaneada se mezcla con fotografías, en este caso, fotografías de dos muros del barrio, aportando huellas de lugar, superficie y tiempo a la obra.

    Para mí, esta parte del proceso trata de la transformación, el equilibrio entre la mano y el software, la intuición y el refinamiento, viendo cómo un simple acto de escribir puede convertirse en algo visual, reflexivo y lleno de vida.

    December always begins with a spark with the first prompts of the annual Big Advent Art Challenge (Instagram @thebigadventartchallenge). This year, the journey is all about colour. So far the prompts have been: Peach Fuzz, Sea Green, and Scorched Earth.

    Three colours, three moods. Do with them what you will.

    For me, Advent has become a much looked forward to time of the year and creative practice: showing up each day, responding to a prompt, letting instinct guide the work.

    Diciembre siempre empieza con una chispa: los primeros prompts del Big Advent Art Challenge (Instagram @thebigadventartchallenge).

    Este año, el viaje va de color. Hasta ahora, los prompts han sido: Peach Fuzz, Sea Green y Scorched Earth.

    Tres colores, tres estados de ánimo, tres formas de prestar atención. Haz con ellos lo que quieras.

    Para mí, el Adviento se ha convertido en una época muy esperada y en una práctica creativa: aparecer cada día, responder a un prompt, dejar que el instinto guíe la obra.

  • Pebble Pushing

    A small moment, a simple pebble. I am currently enjoying this process of pushing and following a pebble across paper with one of my coloured pens, letting it leave its own wandering marks, its own quiet map.

    Next I scan it onto the laptop, where those marks become something. Often I see a face but it’s interesting what turns up in this kind of activity.

    Proceso e Inspiración — De Guijarro a Píxel

    Un momento pequeño, un simple guijarro. Ahora mismo estoy disfrutando este proceso de empujar y seguir un guijarro sobre el papel con uno de mis bolígrafos de colores, dejando que trace sus propias líneas errantes, su propio mapa silencioso.

    Luego lo escaneo al ordenador, donde esas marcas se convierten en algo. A veces veo un rostro, pero es interesante lo que surge en este tipo de actividad. ¡Pruébalo tú también!

    La Sierra de Cádiz

    Last Friday’s walk along el Río Majaceite, from the cool shade of the valley to the sturdy heights of Benamahoma, felt like stepping into a moving wonderland.

    Light filtered, water broke into patterns, and every turn offered a new texture: moss, stone, shadow, reflection. These are the kinds of places where ideas begin quietly, a line in the riverbank, the curve of a branch, the rhythm of water over rock.

    I’m gathering these colours, shapes, and small details with the quiet hope of transforming them into new Coast of Light pieces. Because inspiration isn’t always a moment; sometimes it’s simply a path you walk.

    A lo largo del río Majaceite

    La caminata del viernes pasado por el río Majaceite — desde la sombra fresca del valle hasta las alturas firmes de Benamahoma — fue como entrar en un paisaje en movimiento.

    La luz filtrada, el agua rompiéndose en patrones, y cada giro ofreciendo una nueva textura: musgo, piedra, sombra, reflejo. Estos son los lugares donde las ideas empiezan en silencio — una línea en la orilla, la curva de una rama, el ritmo del agua sobre la roca.

    Estoy recogiendo estos colores, formas y pequeños detalles con la esperanza tranquila de transformarlos en nuevas piezas de Coast of Light. Porque la inspiración no siempre es un instante; a veces es simplemente un camino que recorres.
