Mary Castle Reimagined — a work that began with a simple painting that has always been part of my life and grew into something layered, luminous, and alive.

The original brushstrokes belonged to my grandmother — a painter of quiet trees and calm horizons. Years later, I have revisited one of her works digitally, blending her tones and textures with my own — and drawing inspiration from the intuitive colour sense of Anna Bellinger (@absowm_art), whose palette added a new depth to the piece.

It became more than an artwork — a conversation between generations, between pigment and pixel, between memory and light.

Sometimes inspiration doesn’t arrive new; it returns, asking to be seen again in another way.

Mary Castle Reimagined — una obra que comenzó con una sencilla pintura que siempre ha formado parte de mi vida y creció hasta convertirse en algo con más capas, luz y vida.

Las pinceladas originales pertenecían a mi abuela — una pintora de árboles tranquilos y horizontes serenos. Años más tarde, he vuelto a una de sus obras de forma digital, mezclando sus tonos y texturas con los míos, e inspirándome en la sensibilidad del color de Anna Bellinger (@absowm_art), cuya paleta aportó una nueva profundidad a la pieza.

Se convirtió en algo más que una obra de arte — una conversación entre generaciones, entre pigmento y píxel, entre la memoria y la luz.

A veces la inspiración no llega nueva; regresa, pidiendo ser vista de otra manera.

Sometimes it starts with a single frame — the way sunlight touches a crumbling wall, the shadow of a palm leaf, the quiet air in Plaza de Mina.

This was the original photo that became the artwork — a simple moment of LOOKING UP, transformed through a simple added texture or two from my background collection.

The creative process, for me, often begins like this: standing still, noticing the rhythm of light, and letting a place slowly tell its story.

A veces todo empieza con una sola imagen: la forma en que la luz toca una pared desgastada, la sombra de una hoja de palmera, el aire tranquilo de la Plaza de Mina.

Esta fue la foto original que dio lugar a la obra — un momento sencillo de mirar hacia arriba, transformado con una o dos texturas de mi colección de fondos.

El proceso creativo, para mí, suele comenzar así: quedarse quieto, observar el ritmo de la luz y dejar que un lugar cuente su historia poco a poco.
